One of the most beautiful medieval villages of Italy
The Farm of Pietrafitta is situated on a hilltop, far only 4 km from the medieval city of San Gimignano.
San Gimignano is a destination suggested for who wants to visit a medieval small town that remained intact. Declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for the architecture of his historical center, is famous for his sixteen towers, that gave to the city the name of "Medieval Manhattan".
The name of San Gimignano, instead, comes from bishop Saint Geminianus, who had defended it from Attila's Huns. The place where the city was borned has chosen probably for strategical reasons, because is on a hilltop above Alta Val d'Elsa, that in the past was being a stage of via Francigena, covered by the arcibishop of Canterbury Sigerico in the X century a.C, to reach Canterbury from Rome.
The available routes can satisfy the most curious tourists, because among the interesting sites there are Palazzo Comunale, where you can visit Museo Civico and the Torre Grossa that rises on the left side of the palace, and Spezieria di Santa Fina, where is reproduced the ancient pharmacy, that now is a part of a museum complex with the Archeological Museum and the Modern Art Gallery.
